SESSION ON INTERNATIONAL MARKETING Carrying on with the guest lecture series, an important element of the unique pedagogy system at DMS IIT Delhi, Industry Interaction Cell, an arm of student association at DMS, organized a guest lecture on the practical aspects of international marketing by Mr. Abhishek Madan, AGM, Jindal Steels Ltd on 8th August, 2010. Mr. Madan has 15 years of experience in the field of marketing which he shared in a nutshell during the session which was by and large an interactive one addressing the queries of the student rather than being a monologue. |

The session started with defining marketing as a process of identifying market needs and directing them into products and services exchangeable profitably. He next proceeded by explaining the nitty-gritty of International marketing, elucidating the nuances of understanding global needs, beating competitions, coordinating and integrating market strategies of the organization across all countries. At the end, students were apprised of the concept of self reference criteria (SRC), which is viewing the International market from the perspective of home market, which mostly runs fatal for the growth in overseas market and hence should be strictly avoided in international marketing. All in all, filled with many succinct examples it was an interesting and educative session. |

INDEPENDENCE DAY RUN The independence day run at IIT Delhi turned out to be a welcome return to physical activity for plenty of people. The nearly 4 kilometer run, starting from the famous Student Activity Centre, commonly referred to as SAC, on till the institute's main gate, and back to the SAC, turned out to be a draining affair for most people involved. It was a wake up call to many of us, making us realize that in our hectic schedule packed with classes, assignments, readings, and case studies, physical activity has become a casualty! |
DMS, in particular, was very well represented in the run, constituting over half of the running force. Enthusiastic runners wearing DMS t-shirts could be seen running at different points along the running track. It was a physical test for most of us, as each one of us had to push ourself to somehow resist the temptation of giving up midway through the run, and complete it. Many of us succeeded in doing so, while some of us didn't. But overall, it was a fun affair for all us, and an early morning well spent. It was a great start to the most important red letter day in our nation - Independence Day. |
